Drug Intervention

One of the most heartbreaking things to have to deal with is to watch your child, husband, wife or other loved one descend into the grips of a drug or alcohol addiction. Watching it happen can make a person feel helpless, living with the person that has the addiction can quickly spin life out of control for all that are in close proximity. When this occurs it may be time to perform a drug intervention and place your loved one in an inpatient drug rehab center. Often times when a drug addiction spirals out of control, the person who is addicted does not realize how bad their problem has become or they find themselves in complete in denial that there is a problem at all. A drug intervention can offer the perfect opportunity to help this person understand how much their addiction is affecting everyone else in their life, and by helping them to see this hopefully they will be able to acknowledge that they have a problem that needs treatment. Drug intervention should never be done without the presence for a qualified professional that understands the intervention process.

This is because a person who is in denial about their drug problem is likely to get angry when confronted and this can cause them to either completely reject the idea of treatment or even cause someone to get hurt depending on how out of control the addict is. A qualified drug intervention counselor understand how to approach the intervention process and keep it in control at all times offering the best chance of reaching your loved one and getting them to accept the help they need. Most interventions should not be held until a suitable drug rehab facility has been found for them, as you will need to make sure that your loved one is driven directly from intervention to the rehab center giving them no time to change their mind or make excuses. Most experts also recommend that intervention is held in a neutral location away from their home, where it is less likely that they will get violent. If drug intervention is successful you will need to enroll your loved one in an inpatient rehab center, where they will stay for anywhere from 30 days to 6 months.

During this time they will go through a detox period where their main focus will be getting past all the physical aspects of their addiction. Once they get past this part of the program they will then need to learn how to stay sober, how to take care of their bodies, and how to manage their emotions, stress and day to day living in an effort to help them not relapse. After they have gone through an intensive 24/7 treatment they will then be offered an opportunity to go into a rehabilitation unit that offers a safe environment to re-transition into the community and rebuild a sober life. Outpatient care will continue for some time offering your loved one the support they need to stay sober and be successful.
