When struggling with an addiction it can be difficult to find a rehab center that you can afford. Many people that have lifelong or years-old addictions deplete their savings accounts to support their habits and struggle to keep a job. This means that free drug rehab centers can be very enticing to these ones as there is no need for cash up front or medical insurance to support the treatment.
But are these free drug rehab centers ever successful in actually helping someone to quit drugs or alcohol for good? Do they really work for a lifetime? Let's look at some factors to consider if you're thinking of using the services of any of these centers versus an inpatient rehab facility.
Level of Addiction
Any level of addiction should be taken seriously; when someone finds that their addiction is costing them in terms of family relationships, job security, money or financial stability, physical health, or in any other way then they must address this issue.
But oftentimes a free drug rehab center is not capable of handling serious addictions, such as those faced by lifetime drug or alcohol abusers. When a person has been abusing substances for many years, that addiction is seriously ingrained in them physically. They are not using these substances just because it makes them feel good but because the body has been trained to crave these substances as it does food, water, sleep, and so on.
Often a free drug rehab will not offer long-term solutions for those that need programs tailored to them and their serious habits. This doesn't mean that someone with a long-term addiction should not use such a center if they cannot afford inpatient treatment; it simply means that they may have more work to do on their own as they face this addiction.
Type of Treatment Available
What type of treatment is available in a free drug rehab center? They may offer some physical solutions to helping a person quit their habits, but what about counseling sessions and pointed advice to keeping clean and sober?
For instance, will a free drug rehab center counsel someone about their friends and family that may be enabling that addiction? Will they tell that person that being around those who still drink too much and abuse is likely to cause them to pick up those habits again?
These types of counseling sessions and pointed advice is a big help in a person remaining clean and sober even after they gain control over their addictions. Often a person's own behavior will contribute to their likelihood of picking up those habits again, and they need this advice and counsel in order to avoid that happening.
Again, this isn't to say that someone should not even try a free drug rehab center if they don't have the means for any other options. However, if you do have the funds to pay for an inpatient center that offers long-term treatment, this may be the better choice for you.
